Yin Yoga
Teacher Training

This training will verse students in the fundamental concepts of yin—what it is, and how and why we do it. You’ll leave this training with evidence-based strategies to guide your students through growth, (post-traumatic and otherwise) toward the experience of joy.

The Foundations with Emily Peterson

Research has shown that the practice of yin yoga can improve measures of anxiety, depression, and resilience.

Throughout the training, you will gain new depths of personal insight and awareness through direct experience of the philosophy behind yin yoga.

What you will learn

This two-weekend intensive (28 hours) equips you with the tools and knowledge necessary to lead an effective yin class, while simultaneously deepening your own yoga practice. You will build a foundational understanding of:

  • Conscious teaching choices that stem from a framework of trauma-responsiveness

  • The undergirding neurobiology of stress, and stress regulation

  • Become familiar with an intuitive moment-by-moment teaching style and practice that will impact the internal experience of students

  • History, philosophy & practice of yin yoga

  • Enhanced self-inquiry, bodily awareness, and healing

  • The benefits of the practice meridians and Five Elements

  • The importance of fascia and connective tissue

  • The four foundations of mindfulness and the intersection of yin, mindfulness, and the brain

  • • Four yin sequences with modifications and options

    • The creation and delivery of sequencing and messaging

    • Key concepts such as trauma, ACES, resilience, space, and presence

    • How trauma impacts the skills that yoga strives to improve—and why this should be a consideration in a yoga class

    • Basic guidelines for setting up a more trauma informed practice space putting into practice teaching choices that mitigate stress response

“I continue to feel so honored, humbled, and transformed having had the opportunity to take Emily's Yin Yoga Teacher Training last fall. What a gift! Emily's experience and wisdom is so clear in her thoughtful and personal teaching style and materials, and left me ready to take my teaching to the next level. This training led me to think about how I teach other Vinyasa and other yoga styles, as well, giving both my practice and teaching new breath.

I especially appreciated the way that Emily imbues her values of anti-racism in her teaching, particularly mindful of the risks of cultural appropriation and power dynamics as a teacher. Informed by her practice wisdom and expertise in fascial anatomy, trauma-informed/accessible practice, Reiki healing, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Emily's acuity gave a holistic approach to the practice, representing a training that cannot be duplicated elsewhere. What an honor to have her as a teacher, and a part of my yoga lineage!”

About Emily

With over ten years of teaching yin, Emily Peterson brings unique and diverse experience, training, and perspective to the practice and teaching of yin.

Her methods go far beyond the traditionally understood physiological and energetic benefits of yin and expands into why and how yin is a tool for promoting emotional, spiritual, and psycho-social health.

Emily’s background in applied psychology, mindfulness and peace building, biomechanics, energy healing, trauma, and traumatic growth allows her to translate abstract concepts around yin yoga into concrete and accessible actions. Through this, she provides her students with an increased sense of efficacy about their own teaching and capacity to use yin as a tool for wellbeing.
