PARTNER STRETCHING AND SHIATSU MASSAGE, a workshop with Daniel Orlansky, Friday, February 15, 7:15–9:30pm in Newton
Partner Assisted Stretching and Shiatsu Massage reduces muscle tension, increases flexibility, enhances circulation, helps alleviate lower back pain, improves balance and coordination, and when assisted, stretches become more safe and effective. In this workshop we will work with a partner to help lengthen tight muscles using a modern stretching technique called PNF/resistance stretching. Stretches for the lower and upper body will be taught, along with some elements of Shiatsu Massage (gentle finger and hand pressure, skillful touch, and relaxing joint manipulations.) Come with a spouse, partner, friend or neighbor, or just by yourself and we will partner you up with someone at the workshop. Learn to listen, receive, share and play! All levels are welcome.

PRENATAL YOGA TEACHER TRAINING: MODULE 1, with Bec Conant, Feb 15–17 and Feb 22–24 in Newton

A woman’s body is specifically designed for the challenges of pregnancy and birth. In short, the process of birth works and works well. But in our western culture, we have gotten away from the wisdom inherent in the pregnant body, and have instead turned to medical procedures to ensure birth happens in one specific manner, often according to predictable timelines and landmarks. Prenatal Yoga is about giving the power back to the woman.
Join Bec Conant, formerly of Om Births, for a Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training to delve deeper into the specifics and unique components of teaching yoga to pregnant women. More than just adapting posture for a pregnant body shape this training delves deeper into the emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of pregnancy and motherhood. Learn more about the three modules of the training and apply now on our website (link in bio). Already a yoga teacher with a Prenatal Yoga certification? What is something you learned during the training that helps you better support pregnant women in your classes?

“When my father first passed away when I was ten years old, I was told (by many) that one day I would eventually be “OK” again. One of the first things I ever learned about grief was that it is a process. Like any process, there are stages or steps, which, when completed, means that one has reached a particular end.” In the latest Down Under Voices blog post, Holly Austin shares the thoughts she had at the very beginning of her grieving process. Check out her full blog post, HOW YOGA SUPPORTS MY GRIEVING PROCESS, to read how the process of yoga helped her better understand the process of grief, and value the complexities and details of her life. YOGA FOR SCOLIOSIS & BACK CARE, a workshop with Susan Elena Esquivel on Sundays: February 10, April 7, and June 2, 3:30–5:30pm in Newton
These two-hour classes will focus on the back care principles of lengthening and strengthening the core and spinal muscles. Participants will learn how combining yoga. Using the principles of Iyengar yoga, one can find that balance point that allows the scoliosis curve or other spinal imbalances to coexist with gravity, activating the body’s natural plumb line. The result for most people with scoliosis or other back care concerns is better posture, freer breathing and less pain. No previous experience necessary, all levels welcome. “During the [restorative yoga] practice, the mind has time and space to rest, unwinding the tight spirals of the stories we tell ourselves and shifting into witnessing, observing mode.” In a Down Under Voices blog post, yoga teacher Tristan Boyer Binns discusses what happens to the mind and body in a restorative yoga class and how a restorative practice activates our inbuilt healing system. Read the full post, HEALING AND RESTORATIVE YOGA, on our website (link in bio).
To experience what Tristan writes about first-hand, join her for two hours of restful relaxation on Tuesday, February 12 at 2pm in Brookline for a RESTORATIVE INTENSIVE. Serious students, teachers, and anyone in need of a restful afternoon are all welcome!

ACROSS WOMEN’S LIVES: YOGA FOR BONE HEALTH, a workshop with Rosie Richardson on Sunday, February 3 in Newton 2–4:30pm
Did you know that over 54 million Americans have low bone density, and 1 in 2 women age 50+ will experience a fracture that is the result of bone loss? Recent studies have shown that yoga poses can help build bone mass and even stem bone loss. Other benefits include improved strength, joint mobility, and balance.
Join Rosie for a workshop that will provide:
- An overview of considerations and concepts for safe practice to strengthen bone and muscle, improve posture and balance, and reduce stress.
- A practice to experience the application of those concepts in all families of poses.
- Insights and information to enhance your yoga practice in the studio and at home. Photo: @rickbernphotography

Struggling to find meaning and value in the nearly sub-zero temperatures, shorter days, and chilling winds? In the latest Down Under Voices blog post, Sabbi Lall describes how the cycle of asana (yoga postures) has its beginning, middle, and then spirals in toward savasana, a pose that resonates with the winter season.
Sabbi writes, “This turning inward, gathering of energy that then fuels and replenishes a wellspring of growth is reminiscent of the restorative cycle of yoga that culminates in savasana.” Read her full blog post, A WINTER'S TALE, on our website (link in bio). Also, check out her Relax and Renew class every Sunday evening in Brookline 7:45–9pm.

Partner yoga is a fun practice of yoga postures done in physical contact with another person. Students experience a deeper sense of release and stretching through sharing weight and touch with their partners. The practice helps develop a strong feeling of connection, both on the mat and afterwards, which makes it an ideal setting for expecting couples. Our Prenatal Partner Yoga workshop provides an opportunity for couples to enhance their awareness and confidence in pregnancy and birth using partner yoga in a light, fun atmosphere. There are currently two FULL sessions of this workshop on Sunday, January 27 in Newton, 2–4pm and 4:30–6:30pm. Sign up for waitlist only now…more sessions coming soon!
