David Runkle began practicing yoga while teaching high school math in North Carolina. The first physical activity he had enjoyed since childhood, yoga helped him reconnect with his body and become stronger and more stable. Linking movement to conscious breathing helped him quiet his mind and focus on the present moment. The acceptance and contentment David found on his yoga mat began to spread to other areas of his life, and he seeks to help his students develop their own sense of well-being through their yoga practice.
David completed his 200-hour teacher training at HeartWork Studio in Northfield, Minnesota in 2011 and his 300-hour training at the Lotus Pond Center for Yoga and Health in Tampa, Florida in 2014. His classes weave together yoga postures, breath work, and philosophy in a compassionate, thoughtful, and empowering experience. David invites students to adapt the postures and practices to meet their own unique needs so that they can skillfully use the tools of yoga to support their physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
David also lends his expertise to Down Under's senior management team where he serves as education director. He manages the studio's various teacher training programs as well as workshops and class scheduling.
