Born in Japan, Masaaki spent most of his childhood in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He challenged himself mentally and physically by practicing martial arts, which lead him to train with the Yamada style karate, Hong Kong Royal Police Aikido team, and Hong Kong Asian Olympic Judo team. Masaaki studied martial arts for many years working with professional fighters and classic masters.
In 1993, he moved to Boston, where he attended Boston University and graduated with a degree in psychology. Masaaki took his first yoga class in 2002. This experience had a profound influence and he became committed to regular practice after his first time on the mat.
Masaaki received assistant training and subsequently a specialized teacher training at the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute with Coeli Marsh. Masaaki continues to study with Coeli and also works closely with Tom Alden. He honors Coeli Marsh and Tom Alden for their guidance and continuous support and also recognizes Yamada Sensai for sharing his wisdom on “Bushido” (way of a warrior).
Through his teaching, Masaaki remains committed to bringing love, peace, wisdom, and kindness to others. He uses skilled techniques to help students therapeutically, and works to empower their own intelligence and wisdom to be able to heal.
